Fungia Coral

Fungia (Fungiidae)

Size – Most reach around 10-12 inches in diameter.

Fungia Corals can be found in various beautiful colors such as, pink, blue, purple, yellow, and red. They belong to the family Fungiidae, which consists of plate corals.

They are found in the reefs of the Indo-Pacific.

Like other stony corals, they have several feeding methods. They can absorb dissolved organic matter as well as capture planktonic organisms.

Juveniles are typically attached to a rocky surface, but adults are actually solitary and detach themselves to be free living individuals.

It is monotypic, meaning there is only a single species within the genus. Until 2015, it was believed that there were upwards of 30 species of fungia coral. They belong to the family Fungiidae, which consists of plate corals. 

They are near threatened.

They are sometimes referred to as plate coral.
