Porcupinefish

Diodontidae

Porcupinefish are typically larger and have a round, spiny body covered in small, sharp spines. Blowfish, on the other hand, have a more elongated body and are covered in larger, more prominent spines.

Porcupinefish range in size from 12-90 cm (4-35 inches), depending on the species. They have a round, spiny body covered in small, sharp spines that they can inflate with water or air to make themselves appear larger.

They have a large, protruding snout and a large, downward-facing mouth. They have small and poorly developed eyes, and their vision is limited.

They have a round, spiny body and can inflate themselves with water or air to deter predators. They are usually a brownish color with white spots, but some species may have yellow, orange, or black markings.

Porcupinefish are found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. They inhabit coral reefs, lagoons, estuaries, and other nearshore areas. They prefer shallow waters, but some species can be found in depths of up to 250 meters.

They are usually solitary creatures and are rarely seen in groups. They are mostly nocturnal and spend their days hiding in crevices and under rocks.

Porcupinefish typically feed on mollusks, crustaceans, and other small invertebrates.

Porcupinefish are generally solitary creatures and are rarely seen in groups. They are mostly nocturnal and spend their days hiding in crevices and under rocks.

When threatened, they will inflate themselves with water or air to make themselves appear larger and more intimidating. They are also known to be quite skittish around predators and humans.

They have a complex social hierarchy and will interact with other fish of the same species. They are also known to recognize and react to their owners.

Porcupinefish, also known as Balloonfish, are a group of fish belonging to the family Diodontidae. There are over 30 species of porcupinefish, featuring:
