Hammerhead Sharks Info:
Size Range – 2ft to 20ft
They are characterized by the structure of their head which is flattened horizontally into a “hammer” shape called a cephalofoil.
They are found worldwide in tropical and temperate waters along the coast and continental shelves.
Bony fish, Stingrays, Sharks, Squid, Octopus and Crustaceans.
Some species will swim in schools during the day and will hunt solitary at night.
In the cooler months they inhabit warm tropical waters, but participate in mass migrations when the weather becomes warmer in search of cooler regions.
They will swim along the sea floor “stalking” their prey.
Scientists believe that their head shape gives the shark improved binocular vision and depth perception.
There are 10 different species of Hammerhead Shark.
